What this site collects

Privacy

This site sets no cookies, stores nothing in your browser, and loads no third-party embeds. It collects something in exactly five situations, and each one is set out below with what it is for, who processes it, how long it is kept, and how to have it removed.

The controller for personal data collected through this site is Mattias Hjelmstedt. You can contact the controller at [hello@riftsequence.com](mailto:hello@riftsequence.com).

  1. 01

    Coalition email address

    Purpose
To send the reader briefings you asked for: new findings, changes in evidence status, corrections, and occasional notes about the books.
    Processor
Kit (ConvertKit), a United States processor. A data processing agreement is in place. Your confirmation is recorded there as evidence of consent.
    Retention
    Until you unsubscribe.
    Deletion
Every email carries an unsubscribe link, which removes you immediately. You can also write to us and ask for the record to be deleted outright.
  2. 02

Seed reader form — email address, name or handle, where you found the programme, and which file format you want

    Purpose
To send you the draft, to send you the eight-question feedback form, and to know which invitation routes reached readers.
    Processor
Kit, tagged as a seed participant. Same processor and same agreement as above.
    Retention
Deleted when the seed programme ends — unless you also ticked the optional Coalition box, in which case your address stays on that list and the seed answers do not.
    Deletion
Write to us at any time and it goes before the programme ends.
  3. 03

Correction submissions — the page, your description, and an email address only if you give one

    Purpose
To check the correction against the source and fix the page. A correction is credited in that entry’s developments log only if you tell us you want to be.
    Processor
Handled by us. The submission is delivered to the author and nowhere else; nothing about it goes to an advertising or profiling service.
    Retention
Held while the correction is being processed. The dated log entry that results describes the correction, not the person who sent it, unless you consented to credit.
    Deletion
Write to us and the submission record goes; the corrected page stays corrected.
  4. 04

Form security — the check that runs when you submit a form

    Purpose
To tell a reader apart from a script, so the forms on this site are not filled in by bots.
    Processor
Cloudflare Turnstile. It runs on the two form pages only, never in the site shell, and it sets no cookie for advertising or tracking.
    Retention
Cloudflare holds the verification data under its own retention terms; we hold none of it.
    Deletion
There is nothing here for us to delete. The check produces a pass or a fail and we keep the answer only long enough to accept or refuse the submission.
  5. 05

    Aggregate site statistics

    Purpose
To see which pages are read and which routes into the record work — page counts, not people.
    Processor
Plausible Analytics, in its cookieless configuration. No cookie, no cross-site profile, no personal data.
    Retention
Aggregate counts only. Nothing is stored that identifies a visitor, so there is no record of you to keep.
    Deletion
Nothing identifies you, so there is nothing to remove. Any browser setting that blocks analytics is respected — the site does not work around one.

Not running yet. The site loads no measurement script at all until it is deployed publicly; this row describes what will be collected then, and nothing is being collected now.

Coalition email list

If you join the Coalition, the site collects your email address so it can send the briefings described beside the signup form and deliver the Evidence Dossier. The lawful basis is your consent under Article 6(1)(a) GDPR. The signup uses double opt-in. You can withdraw consent at any time through the unsubscribe link in any message. Withdrawal does not affect processing that took place before it.

Seed reader form

Seed-reader applications (/beta): processed on the basis of your consent, given when you submit the form. The feedback-window commitment you check is part of that submission. Seed records are deleted after the seed phase concludes, per the retention section.

Corrections

If you submit a correction, the site processes the information you provide so the claim can be checked, answered where necessary, and recorded in the correction workflow. The lawful basis is the controller's legitimate interest under Article 6(1)(f) GDPR in maintaining an accurate published record. Do not include sensitive personal information in a correction submission.

Form security

Cloudflare Turnstile is used to protect public forms from automated abuse. Technical data necessary to perform that check may be processed by Cloudflare. The lawful basis is the controller's legitimate interest under Article 6(1)(f) GDPR in protecting the site and its forms.

Analytics

The site uses Plausible Analytics to understand aggregate use of the public pages. Plausible does not use cookies, does not create persistent visitor profiles, and does not store raw IP addresses. The site uses the resulting aggregate statistics to understand whether pages work and where readers stop. Aggregate, cookieless analytics run on the basis of legitimate interest in understanding how the site is read; no individual reader is identified or tracked.

No measurement script is loaded on this site today, so none of this is happening yet. The paragraph above describes what begins when it is switched on.

Kit processes Coalition subscriptions and email delivery. Cloudflare provides hosting, security, form protection, and related infrastructure. Plausible provides aggregate analytics. Current provider details and links to their privacy information are listed below.

Where a provider processes personal data outside the European Economic Area, the transfer relies on the EU-US Data Privacy Framework for providers certified under it, or on standard contractual clauses. Provider-specific details are available on request.

Coalition subscription data is kept until you unsubscribe or ask for deletion, subject to any short suppression record required to ensure that email is not sent again. Correction submissions and related correspondence are kept for up to twenty-four months because they form part of the site's accuracy and audit process. Security and operational logs are kept for the infrastructure provider's short retention windows, measured in days. Aggregate Plausible statistics do not identify individual readers.

Depending on the processing involved, you may have the right to request access, correction, deletion, restriction, objection, or data portability. Where processing is based on consent, you may withdraw that consent at any time. To exercise a right, contact [hello@riftsequence.com](mailto:hello@riftsequence.com). You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Swedish Authority for Privacy Protection, IMY, at [imy.se](https://www.imy.se/).

  • No cookies are set, for any purpose.
  • Nothing is written to your browser’s storage.
  • No third-party embeds. No fonts, videos, players or scripts are loaded from anyone else — the one exception is the form security check above, and it runs on the form pages only.
  • Nothing is sold, shared for advertising, or used to build a profile.
  • Downloading the book asks for nothing. No account, no address, no gate.

The Rift Sequence is published by Mattias Hjelmstedt. Write to hello@riftsequence.com to ask what is held about you, to correct it, or to have it deleted. You do not need a reason and you will not be asked for one.

This page describes the data handling intended for every route on the site. If you find the site behaving differently, report it through Corrections or email the controller so it can be investigated and corrected.

Everything described here applies to riftsequence.com and to the domains that redirect to it: theriftsequence.com, fourthvisitor.com and thefourthvisitor.com.
